Same problem here, same munin version :

munin@vtyv-munin:/root$ nice /opt/munin/lib/munin-html
not a reference at /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.1/Munin/Master/Utils.pm line 901
munin@vtyv-munin:/root$ cat /etc/debian_version

I resolved the problem by doing "make" before doing "make install"

Same Problem here although i've done make before "make install".
My debug-log looks exactly the same as sylr's.

Just to clearify some things regarding this "error".
I wasted 2 days of work to find out why this error happens.

First of all, the make/make install thing is correct.
But even if you have done this (like me), you can run into this problem.

The thing is: This error is not really an error. I tracked down this issue to $PERLLIB/Munin/Master/HTMLOld.pm. The script trys to generate the node tree.

If you swap this file with the old version of 1.4.6, you get another "error" message, but with better information.
In 1.4 the error tells you that there are no nodes or graphs and so the script cannot continue (it also points you to an FAQ-entry).

After that message suddenly everything fits together:

In Version 2.0-beta4 you always get the "error in line 901" message if you dont have collected any data for any node. So the directory usually created in /var/opt/munin is empty.

Instead of checking this, and inform you about this problem, the new script tries to continue and fails with the error above.

So to "fix" this, you just have to start the node and wait for munin-update to be launched (or launch it manually if you dont want to wait for cron).
After that you can run munin-html without this crappy error.

For one of the next releases, it would be nice to have a better error message when no data is available.

Sry, but reinstalled munin (deleted all files in /etc and /var/opt)
but there still is the problem with the error in line 901.
This time while executing munin-cron...

The weird thing is, that /var/opt/munin isn't empty, there are some files...

# ls -ali /var/opt/munin/
total 28K
647172 drwxr-xr-x 2 munin root 4.0K Nov 16 16:16 .
639069 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4.0K Nov 6 16:57 ..
647185 -rw-r--r-- 1 munin munin 18 Nov 16 16:16 datafile
647187 -rw-r--r-- 1 munin munin 33 Nov 16 16:16 datafile.storable
647171 -rw-r--r-- 1 munin munin 0 Nov 16 16:16 htmlconf.storable

Ouh damnit... Sorry, my mistake... Could you please remove my comment and this one?

The script only works if there are *.rrd files inside of /var/opt/munin.
Munin-Update creates subfolders in /var/opt/munin, usually "groupname/nodename". Inside of this folder are .rrd files.

If there are no rrd-files or the subfolders are non-existing, the munin-node configuration is not working (munin-update doesnt get any data from it).

Please be sure munin-update is working before running munin-html!

  • Milestone changed from Munin 2.0 to Munin 3.0
  • Priority changed from highest to low

We should have a better error message, but since the workaround is just to wait, i'm pushing it to 3.0, and lower its priority.
